HVAC / Refrigeration Mechanic – Foreman

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced HVAC / Refrigeration Mechanic to lead a crew and support a critical US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves installation, maintenance, modification, overhaul, service and repair of air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems in a remote, demanding environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HVAC crew(s) in installing, maintaining and repairing refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems.
• Coordinate schedules, ensure proper staffing and distribute work effectively.
• Track, analyze and report progress, trends and issues; recommend improvements.
• Implement preventive maintenance programs for all HVAC equipment.
• Train personnel on HVAC maintenance procedures to maintain performance standards.
• Fabricate, assemble and install ductwork and chassis parts using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
• Connect motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls, and ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.
• Install, repair and service up to twenty‑ton air‑conditioning units.
• Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of relevant HVAC experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Trade certification in heating and air‑conditioning (or proof of competency).
• EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Type 1, 2 and/or 3) as required.
• Freon Recovery/Recycling certification for host‑country assignments.
• Ability to work in remote, uncomfortable conditions and travel domestically and internationally on short notice.

Required skills

• Knowledge of refrigeration, heating and air‑handling principles.
• Proficiency with hand tools and diagnostic equipment used in HVAC maintenance and repair.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, safety rules and maintenance manuals.
• Experience fabricating and installing ductwork using metalworking and welding tools.
• Skill in connecting motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls, and ventilation fans.
• EPA Section 608 certification.
• Freon Recovery/Recycling certification.
