HAZMAT/HAZWASTE Handler & Shipper for US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is looking for an experienced HAZMAT/HAZWASTE Handler and Shipper to support a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe, compliant collection, packaging, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and regulated waste.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, package, transport, and ship hazardous materials (HM), hazardous waste (HW), and excess HM in line with Diego Garcia Final Governing Standards (DGFGS) and the contractor’s management plan.
• Manage the Hazardous Waste Storage Area (HWSA), Satellite Hazardous Waste Accumulation Points (SHWAPs), and the Hazardous Material Minimization (HAZMIN) Reissue Center.
• Complete initial and annual refresher training to meet DGFGS, 40 CFR 265.16, and other regulatory requirements.
• Obtain and maintain certifications for hazardous cargo shipment from the Naval School of Physical Distribution Management or the School of Military Packaging Technology, including biennial refresher courses.
• Conduct inspections of hazardous materials and waste to verify compliance with storage, handling, packaging, and disposal standards.
• Maintain accurate records of waste generation, shipment, and disposal, and provide guidance to team members.

Required profile

• Minimum five years experience in collection, transportation, shipping, and disposal of hazardous waste, hazardous material, or other regulated waste.
• At least five years documented experience operating hazardous material or waste facilities such as HWSA, SHWAPs, or HAZMIN Reissue Center.
• Certification to certify outgoing hazardous cargo shipments obtained through approved naval or military training programs.
