HVAC / Refrigeration Mechanic

About the role

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Foreman leads a crew in installing, maintaining, modifying, overhauling, servicing, and repairing air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems for a US Navy program on Diego Garcia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HVAC crew(s) and ensure work complies with blueprints, manufacturer specs, and instructions.
• Coordinate schedules, distribute work, and manage staffing levels.
• Track progress, analyze trends, report issues, and recommend improvements.
• Implement preventive‑maintenance programs for all HVAC equipment.
• Train personnel on HVAC maintenance procedures.
• Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts using hand tools and welding equipment.
• Connect motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls, and ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.
• Install, repair, and service up to 20‑ton air‑conditioning units.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of relevant HVAC experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Trade certification in heating and air‑conditioning (or proof of competency).
• EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Types 1, 2, and/or 3) as required.
• Ability to work in remote, potentially uncomfortable conditions and travel domestically and internationally on short notice.

• Refrigeration system installation and maintenance.
• Air‑conditioning and heating system repair.
• Ductwork fabrication and welding.
• Use of hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Reading and interpreting schematics, safety rules, and maintenance manuals.
• EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Types 1‑3).
• Trade certification in heating and air‑conditioning.
• Freon recovery/recycling certification (where applicable).
