About the role
The LCM Deckhand supports mooring, towing, cargo handling and emergency response operations for vessels in the lagoon. The role involves hands‑on work with a variety of craft and equipment to ensure safe and efficient maritime activities.
Key responsibilities
- Handle and secure mooring and towing lines during berthing and unberthing of vessels.
- Load and off‑load cargo, supplies and dumpsters between ships and the lagoon.
- Deploy, reposition and maintain high‑performance fender systems, submarine towed array sonar cables and navigation buoys.
- Assist Navy underwater construction and diver teams with inspections, hull cleaning and underwater jobs.
- Conduct search and rescue, oil spill response, and emergency boat services.
- Operate potable water, SWOB, cargo barges and perform routine maintenance on boats and equipment.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent; maritime studies preferred.
- Minimum one year experience as a deckhand aboard a vessel.
- Must pass 2nd Class Swimmer qualification and overseas medical screening.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
Required skills
- Boat handling and seamanship.
- Basic radio communications.
- Use of firefighting equipment.
- First aid and CPR certification.
- 2nd Class Swimmer certification.
- PQS 301 (maintenance personnel) and 3M system knowledge.
