LCM Deckhand (FN) – Marine Operations Support

About the role

The LCM Deckhand supports a range of marine operations in the lagoon, handling mooring, towing, cargo transfer and emergency response tasks as part of the LCM crew.

Key responsibilities

• Handle and secure mooring and towing lines during berthing and unberthing of craft.
• Load and off‑load cargo, supplies and dumpsters from ships in the lagoon.
• Deploy, reposition and maintain high‑performance fender systems, submarine towed array sonar cables and navigation buoys.
• Assist Navy Underwater Construction Teams and divers with hull cleaning, inspection and underwater jobs.
• Conduct MWR activities, VIP repatriations, MEDEVACs and special water sampling runs.
• Operate oil‑spill response equipment, install oil booms and support search‑and‑rescue missions.
• Perform routine maintenance on boats and equipment according to the Navy’s 3‑M System.
• Provide first‑aid, CPR and emergency communication support when needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; maritime studies preferred.
• Minimum one year experience as a deckhand aboard a vessel.
• Must pass 2nd Class Swimmer qualification and overseas medical screening.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.

Required skills

• Boat handling and seamanship.
• Basic radio communications and firefighting equipment use.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• 2nd Class Swimmer certification.
• Certified PQS 301 (Maintenance Personnel) for the 3‑M System.
• Oil‑spill response training and certification.
