LCM Deckhand (FN) – Marine Operations

About the role

The LCM Deckhand supports a wide range of maritime operations in the lagoon, handling mooring, towing, cargo transfer, and emergency response tasks. The role requires close cooperation with LCM crews, Navy teams, and other service crafts.

Key responsibilities

• Handle and secure mooring and towing lines during berthing and unberthing of craft.
• Load and off‑load cargo, supplies and dumpsters from/to ships in the lagoon.
• Deploy, reposition and maintain HP fender backing boards, towing fenders, submarine camels and sea‑cushion fenders.
• Assist with retrieval and deployment of submarine towed array sonar system (STASS) cables.
• Support Navy Underwater Construction Team and diver inspection teams for buoy, pier and hull inspections.
• Conduct MWR activities, chartered fishing trips, water sampling, VIP repatriations and MEDEVAC runs.
• Install, position and retrieve oil booms for ship and fuel barge operations.
• Operate potable water, SWOB, YC‑SLOPS and YC‑CARGO barges.
• Participate in search and rescue, oil spill response, mitigation and clean‑up missions.
• Perform scheduled maintenance on boats and equipment according to the Navy’s 3‑M System.

Required profile

• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• Completed on‑the‑job training for LCM deckhands, including oil‑spill training.
• Minimum one year experience as a deckhand aboard a vessel.
• Pass 2nd Class Swimmer qualification and overseas medical screening.
• Ability to provide first aid and CPR until further assistance arrives.
