Coxswain – US Navy Support on Diego Garcia

About the role

Amentum is seeking a qualified Coxswain to operate and navigate boats supporting a US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The role involves ensuring passenger safety, maintaining vessel readiness, and complying with maritime regulations in a remote, multi‑national environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and navigate various watercraft, handling docking, mooring, and cargo loading.
• Conduct pre‑trip inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Monitor weather conditions and adjust plans to maintain safety.
• Maintain navigation and communication equipment, and keep accurate logs of trips, maintenance, and incidents.
• Coordinate with port authorities, other vessels, and conduct safety drills and briefings.
• Respond to emergencies, perform rescues, and provide excellent customer service to passengers.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Coxswain or in a similar maritime role.
• Qualified according to NAVEDTRA 43152.2 and familiar with Diego Garcia waterways.
• Minimum 48 hours of hands‑on deep‑sea fishing boat operation in Diego Garcia.
• Valid passport (at least one year remaining) and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain required facility credentials.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
• Valid boat operator’s license or certification.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certification.
