Grounds Laborer – US Navy Program (Diego Garcia)

About the role

The Grounds Laborer will support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia, performing routine maintenance and landscaping to keep operational areas, grounds, and storm‑water drainage systems clean, safe and visually appealing.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mowing, trimming, pruning, mulching, weeding, raking, planting, fertilising and watering of lawns and landscaped areas.
• Maintain and clean storm‑water drainage systems, removing debris and blockages.
• Operate and service grounds‑keeping equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, brush cutters and blowers.
• Collect and dispose of leaves, grass clippings, trash and other debris from grounds, parking lots and walkways.
• Install, water, fertilise and protect plants, trees and shrubs; assist with pest and disease control.
• Support irrigation system repairs and ensure proper water distribution.
• Report equipment issues, maintenance problems or unsafe conditions to the crew leader.
• Assist with storm cleanup, debris removal and drainage maintenance during inclement weather.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Physical ability to lift, bend, carry and stand for long periods in various weather conditions.
• Ability to follow instructions, work safely and as part of a team.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining validity for international travel.
