Coxswain – Maritime Vessel Operator

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Coxswain to support a unique U.S. Navy program located on the island of Diego Garcia. The role involves operating and navigating various watercraft while ensuring the safety of passengers, crew, and cargo in a remote, austere environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and navigate boats and other watercraft safely.
• Conduct pre‑trip inspections and routine maintenance, including minor repairs.
• Adhere to maritime laws, regulations, and safety protocols.
• Monitor weather conditions and adjust plans as needed.
• Perform docking, mooring, and cargo loading/unloading operations.
• Operate and maintain navigation and communication equipment.
• Coordinate with port authorities, other vessels, and on‑site personnel.
• Manage emergency situations, conduct rescues, and lead safety drills.
• Maintain accurate logs of trips, maintenance, and incidents.
• Provide excellent customer service and brief passengers on safety procedures.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Coxswain or in a similar maritime role.
• Qualified according to NAVEDTRA 43152.2 and familiar with Diego Garcia waterways.
• At least 48 hours of hands‑on deep‑sea fishing boat experience in Diego Garcia.
• Ability to swim and hold an American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certification.
• Valid boat operator’s license or certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain necessary facility credentials.
• Preferred: strong understanding of maritime laws, OCONUS experience, driver’s license, and relevant visa.
