Boat Engineer – Marine Vessel Design & Construction

About the role

The Boat Engineer will join Amentum’s marine team supporting a critical US Navy program located on Diego Garcia. The role involves designing, constructing, and maintaining marine vessels and related equipment, ensuring they meet stringent safety, quality, and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and testing to inform marine vehicle and equipment design.
• Prepare technical reports, system diagnostics, and design analysis documentation.
• Present layout and engineering designs to clients and internal teams for feedback.
• Supervise structural, mechanical, and electrical design processes.
• Oversee construction, perform quality‑control inspections, and install upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and project timelines.
• Train and supervise designers, mechanics, and construction staff.
• Perform maintenance, troubleshoot technical issues, and execute repairs on marine assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering or a related field.
• Minimum four years of experience as a marine engineer or equivalent.
• Valid passport with at least one year of validity and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain necessary facility credentials.
• USCG engineer license or Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred.
• Experience working in austere OCONUS environments with multinational teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, and SOLIDWORKS.
• Knowledge of maritime HMI and PLC control systems.
• Strong understanding of structural, mechanical, and electrical marine systems.
