Automotive Service Worker / Cleaner

About the role

Amentum is seeking an Automotive Service Worker / Cleaner to support a unique U.S. Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The role involves routine vehicle maintenance and cleaning, keeping the work area tidy and handling automotive parts and supplies. The position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory, a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations, with possible evening, weekend, holiday and extended hours.

Key responsibilities

• Grease, gas, oil and wash vehicles
• Check tire air pressure and condition, and repair flats
• Replace oil filters, spark plugs and distributors
• Clean carburetors and air cleaners
• Check battery water level and general condition
• Check the electrical system and replace burnt-out bulbs and sealed beams
• Keep the work area clean and orderly
• Report equipment using excessive amounts of gas, oil or grease
• Pick up and deliver automotive parts and supplies
• Perform other duties assigned that fit the position's nature and level

Required profile

• High school degree or GED certificate
• Valid passport, valid for at least one year at hire, and ability to obtain country-specific visas and travel internationally
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain them during deployment
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials
• Must be able to speak, read and comprehend English to perform the contract requirements

• Good knowledge of minor automotive maintenance and repair methods
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Dependability
• Preferred: previous experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce, excellent organization, time management and customer service skills, and a valid country driver's license

Safety is emphasized: employees must comply with occupational safety and health standards, use personal protective equipment properly and report workplace hazards. The work involves standing, walking and lifting up to 50 pounds, working in outside weather and being exposed to wet, humid conditions and occasional electrical shock risk.
