Elevator Mechanic - Diego Garcia

About the role

Amentum is seeking an Elevator Mechanic to support a US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The post installs, maintains and repairs elevators and related equipment so they operate safely and reliably. The site is a remote overseas location; employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield and outdoor settings and may face heat, humidity, noise, dust and uneven terrain.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and comply with EHS, quality assurance and documentation requirements.
• Diagnose faults in brakes, motors, switches and control systems using test lamps, ammeters and voltmeters.
• Disassemble defective units and repair or replace parts such as locks, gears, cables and safety devices.
• Lubricate bearings and install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units and conduit systems.
• Work from blueprints, drawings and specifications to locate and fix equipment problems.
• Carry out preventative maintenance according to schedules, procedures and warranties, and suggest improvements.
• Test equipment with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges and frequency counters.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, plus an apprentice program with a Journeyman's certificate or equivalent field experience.
• Familiarity with working sketches, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and manufacturer manuals.
• Knowledge of European and/or US electrical codes and of annual maintenance and load testing procedures.
• Experience with elevators at an overseas facility, workplace safety and customer service.
• Valid passport (at least one year remaining), country visa as required, and ability to pass medical and security requirements and obtain facility credentials.
• Ability to speak, read and understand English; cross-cultural sensitivity and adaptability to a fast-paced, multi-task environment.

Required skills

• Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Preferred: experience with Otis GEN2 MRL elevators and prior work in an austere OCONUS environment.
