Tug 2nd Engineer – Marine Engineering Role

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Tug 2nd Engineer to join its crew on the island of Diego Garcia. The role supports safe, efficient, and reliable tug operations by assisting the Chief Engineer with the maintenance and monitoring of all mechanical and electrical systems aboard the vessel.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Engineer in operating, maintaining, and monitoring propulsion, auxiliary machinery, and electrical systems.
• Conduct routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections of engines, gearboxes, generators, hydraulics, pumps, and related components.
• Perform regular engine‑room inspections, monitor fuel, oil, water conditions, temperatures, and pressures, and make necessary adjustments.
• Maintain accurate service logs, maintenance records, and defect reports in line with vessel guidelines.
• Support docking and undocking operations by ensuring engine and auxiliary readiness.
• Ensure compliance with international, flag‑state, and company standards for safety, security, and pollution prevention.
• Inspect emergency equipment such as steering, firefighting, and power backup systems.
• Mentor crew members on safety standards and operational best practices.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of marine engineering experience, preferably on tugs or similar vessels.
• Chief Engineer credential for vessels of at least 500 GT (STCW).
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational marine engineering training is a plus.
