Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support a unique U.S. Air Force program on Diego Garcia. The role involves maintaining a diverse fleet of vehicles and handling equipment to ensure safe, reliable operations for Air Force, Space Force, AMC, ARTs, and GEODD missions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Non‑Tactical Vehicles, Weight Handling, Material Handling, and other handling equipment.
• Conduct body, fender, and mechanical repairs to keep equipment operational and presentable.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Execute preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, and tune‑ups.
• Document all maintenance actions and ensure compliance with military and safety standards.
• Assist in parts procurement, maintain inventory records, and support vehicle inspections and certifications.
• Collaborate with other maintenance and transportation staff to meet service deadlines.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of journeyman‑level experience with vehicle and equipment maintenance (NTVE, WHE, MHE, OHE).
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Hands‑on experience in both bodywork and mechanical repairs on heavy equipment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and control systems.
