Deckhand / Line Handler

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Deckhand / Line Handler to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves assisting vessel operations, ensuring safety, and providing excellent customer service to crew, passengers, and cargo.

Key responsibilities

• Stand lookout watch in traffic areas under all weather and sea conditions.
• Inspect and maintain emergency equipment daily.
• Assist passengers, perform cleanup, and uphold vessel cleanliness.
• Operate safety gates, loading ramps, and maintain deck security.
• Read engine‑room gauges, report issues to the captain, and log observations affecting vessel stability and safety.
• Handle lines, tie up barges, and conduct tow operations using appropriate equipment.
• Conduct onboard maintenance, repairs, and regular inspections of machinery and equipment.
• Maintain the vessel’s Preventive Maintenance System and perform on‑site equipment surveys.
• Participate in all‑hands drills, emergency exercises, and other assigned duties.

Required profile

• High school education or equivalent (preferred).
• Fluent reading, speaking, and comprehension of English.
• Valid passport for at least one year at hiring.
• Ability to obtain required visas and pass contract medical requirements.
• Commitment to safety culture and quality standards.
