Coxswain

About the role

Amentum is looking for an experienced Coxswain to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves safe operation, navigation and maintenance of assigned boats and watercraft while ensuring the safety of passengers, crew and cargo.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and navigate assigned vessels in accordance with mission requirements.
• Conduct pre‑inspections to verify vessel readiness, safety and seaworthiness.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on boats and related equipment.
• Operate, monitor and maintain onboard navigation, communication and safety systems.
• Monitor weather and sea conditions and adjust plans to ensure safe navigation.
• Execute docking, mooring, anchoring and vessel handling operations safely.
• Coordinate movements with port authorities, harbor control and other vessels.
• Respond to emergencies, including rescue and recovery operations.
• Maintain accurate operational logs, maintenance records, voyage reports and incident documentation.
• Conduct safety briefings and emergency drills for passengers and crew.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience as a Coxswain or similar vessel operator.
• Qualified in accordance with NAVEDTRA 43152.2.
• Familiarity with the waterways of Diego Garcia.
• Minimum of 48 hours documented hands‑on experience operating deep‑sea vessels in Diego Garcia.
