Tug Chief Engineer

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Tug Chief Engineer to lead engineering operations aboard a Navy tug vessel stationed on Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable vessel performance for critical maritime services.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of main and auxiliary engines, propulsion, generators, electrical, hydraulic, and HVAC systems.
• Supervise engineering crew, assign daily tasks, and maintain safety and cleanliness standards.
• Develop and monitor preventive and scheduled maintenance programs in line with regulatory requirements.
• Conduct inspections, monitor fuel, oil, temperature, and pressure parameters, and troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues.
• Maintain accurate engineering logs, maintenance records, and defect reports.
• Coordinate with the Captain and deck team to align engineering and navigational activities.
• Manage spare‑part inventory, requisitions, and refueling procedures.
• Lead emergency response for propulsion failures, fires, flooding, or hazardous material incidents.
• Mentor and train junior engineering staff.

Required profile

• 5–7 years of engineering experience, including 2–3 years in a Chief Engineer or similar leadership role on tugs or maritime vessels.
• Proven experience with propulsion systems, diesel engines, and vessel‑wide mechanical/electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of international, flag‑state, and military regulations governing marine operations.
