About the role
The Port Control Tower Watch will oversee harbor traffic on Diego Garcia, ensuring safe and orderly vessel movements while supporting a critical U.S. Navy program. This position requires coordination of docking, mooring, and communication for all marine traffic in a remote, austere environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assign docking and mooring spaces and maintain navigable channels.
- Enforce marine ordinances and conduct related studies.
- Operate communication networks for all vessel traffic.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, records, and reports of harbor activities.
- Coordinate emergency assistance and manage requests for harbor services.
- Supervise maintenance of markers, buoys, floats, and submit equipment requisitions.
- Survey and record vessel types, sizes, and usage of harbor facilities.
Required profile
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in law enforcement, marine conservation, marine transportation, marine construction, commercial fishing, or as a U.S. Navy seaman.
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Valid passport (minimum one year validity) and ability to pass contract medical requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorizations.
Required skills
- Knowledge of nautical calculations and terminology.
- Experience operating marine communication systems.
- Understanding of harbor facility operations and maintenance.
- Possession of a U.S. Coast Guard Master’s license (preferred).
