Galley Accountant – Navy Food Service Accounting (Diego Garcia)

About the role

The Galley Accountant will support a unique U.S. Navy food service program on Diego Garcia, ensuring all accounting records meet Navy regulations. This position combines manual record‑keeping with automated systems to maintain financial integrity for the galley operation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate Navy food service accounting records in manual and automated formats using the latest Food Service Management (FSM) system.
• Prepare and submit financial reports, returns, and summaries in compliance with Navy protocols and timelines.
• Review, reconcile, and audit records to ensure conformity with DoD and Navy directives.
• Support compliance audits by providing up‑to‑date documentation and facilitating auditor interactions.
• Collaborate with food service personnel, leadership, and auditors to ensure consistent record‑keeping practices.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience managing Navy food service records.
• Certification from the Navy Records and Returns School.
• High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining and ability to obtain required visas and security clearances.
• Ability to meet medical, security, and deployment requirements for a remote overseas assignment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Food Service Management (FSM) software platform.
• Capability to manage manual paper logs when automated systems are unavailable.
• Knowledge of Navy Records and Returns procedures and related accounting guidelines.
