Ground Cargo Handler / MHE Operator

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Ground Cargo Handler / MHE Operator to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves safely operating powered industrial trucks and material handling equipment, including the transport of hazardous materials, while adhering to strict safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate PITs and other MHE to load, unload, and transport cargo in compliance with training and safety regulations.
• Handle hazardous materials (HAZMAT) following DOT 49 CFR Transportation Regulations, ensuring proper containment, labeling, and documentation.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections, maintenance checks, and record‑keeping for cargo movements and hazardous material transport.
• Collaborate with logistics and ground cargo teams to ensure efficient cargo handling and report any mechanical issues promptly.
• Maintain a government‑issued license appropriate for the vehicle class and keep all certifications current.

Required profile

• Valid government‑issued license authorizing operation of vehicles larger than a pick‑up truck.
• Current HAZMAT endorsement on the license, if applicable.
• Ability to participate in mandatory physical assessments and training every two years.
• Commitment to follow all occupational safety and health standards.

Required skills

• Powered industrial truck (PIT) operation.
• Material handling equipment (MHE) operation.
• Hazardous materials handling (HAZMAT) certification.
• Knowledge of DOT 49 CFR Transportation Regulations.
