About the role
The Fire Alarm Dispatcher supports a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia by monitoring fire alarm systems and coordinating emergency response. The role demands quick decision‑making, clear communication, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor fire alarm systems and respond to alarm signals according to established protocols.
- Receive emergency calls, prioritize incidents, and dispatch fire department personnel.
- Operate radios, telephones, and computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) systems to coordinate response activities.
- Maintain real‑time communication with responding units and provide situation updates.
- Document all calls, dispatched units, and actions in official logs.
- Verify alarm system functionality, report faults, and assist with maintenance tracking.
- Collaborate with the Fire and Emergency Services team to ensure seamless coordination.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Telecommunicator I & II and Hazmat Awareness certifications (to be obtained within 12 months if not already held).
- 1‑3 years of experience in emergency dispatch, fire service communications, or a related field.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and follow emergency protocols.
- Pass contract medical requirements and maintain required facility credentials.
Required skills
- Proficiency with computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Operation of radio communications equipment.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting fire alarm systems.
