Airfield Manager – Diego Garcia

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Airfield Manager to lead daily operations of the Diego Garcia airfield. You will ensure safe, compliant, and continuous airfield functionality in a challenging remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee 24/7 airfield operations, ensuring compliance with Federal, Host Nation, and BIOT regulations.
• Serve as the primary contact for airfield safety, authorising closures when unsafe conditions arise.
• Advise the Government Air Operations Officer on operational status and recommend opening/closing decisions.
• Enforce DoD, FAA, NATOPS, UFC, ICAO and other relevant standards.
• Lead construction, repairs and maintenance projects while meeting security and industry best practices.
• Manage and supervise Airfield Management Division personnel within a multi‑function base.
• Prepare and submit documentation for personnel changes to contracting officials.
• Train staff on safety, regulatory compliance and best‑practice airfield management.
• Conduct regular audits, inspections and reassessments to maintain safety and compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering or equivalent from a US or UK accredited institution.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in overall airfield management, preferably with experience comparable to Diego Garcia operations.
• Strong knowledge of DoD, FAA, NATOPS, UFC, ICAO regulations and related standards.
• Familiarity with airfield security regulations and safety practices.
