Machinery Maintenance Mechanic

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves repairing and maintaining a fleet of automobiles, trucks, and heavy‑equipment machinery in a remote, challenging environment.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, order parts, and repair mechanical problems on vehicles and heavy machinery.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.
• Instruct mechanics on vehicle inspection methods and analyse inspection reports.
• Make recommendations for maintenance actions and design modifications to improve safety.
• Conduct expert‑level technical troubleshooting and quality checks on work in progress and completed tasks.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Typically five (5) or more years of experience as a mechanic.
• Ability to direct the activities of others and work under adverse weather and hazardous conditions.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on short notice.

Required skills

• Mechanical troubleshooting.
• Preventative maintenance procedures.
• Operation of a variety of test equipment.
• Interpretation of manufacturers' repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics and engineering drawings.
• Analysis of diagnostic codes.
