SWMC Operator – Solid Waste Management

About the role

We are looking for a SWMC Operator to join Amentum’s team supporting a US Navy solid waste management program on Diego Garcia. The role involves operating and maintaining equipment at the Solid Waste Management Center to ensure safe, efficient handling of waste in line with government‑approved procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Operate solid waste management equipment according to the Government‑accepted SWMC Operations & Maintenance Manual.
• Perform daily collection, sorting, processing and disposal of solid waste materials.
• Conduct inspections, preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment to maintain readiness and safety compliance.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance activities and waste handling.
• Ensure adherence to workplace safety, environmental regulations and operational guidelines.
• Support waste reduction and recycling initiatives as outlined in the SWMC O&M manual.
• Report mechanical issues, equipment concerns or safety hazards to supervisors.
• Collaborate with team members to achieve operational efficiency.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Fully qualified to operate solid waste management equipment as defined in the SWMC O&M Manual.
• Ability to perform routine maintenance and equipment checks.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining and ability to obtain required visas.
• Pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the deployment duration.
• Ability to speak, read and comprehend English.
