Marine Machinist – US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Machinist to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves precision machining, repair, and maintenance of marine vessels and equipment to ensure operational readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders and other precision equipment to fabricate or refurbish parts.
• Perform alignment, installation, repair, and preventive maintenance on pumps, valves, engines, gear mechanisms and hydraulic systems.
• Read and interpret schematics, blueprints and technical drawings to complete assignments accurately.
• Diagnose mechanical issues, troubleshoot failures and execute corrective actions.
• Use micrometers, calipers and gauges to verify part dimensions against specifications.
• Document work performed, parts used and inspection results.
• Collaborate with other maintenance personnel to coordinate large‑scale repairs.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of experience as a marine machinist or in a related mechanical trade.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum one year) and ability to obtain required visas and facility credentials.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and hold a valid driver’s license.
