Marine Engine Mechanic

About the role

We are looking for a Marine Engine Mechanic to join Amentum’s US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves inspecting, maintaining, repairing and overhauling marine propulsion systems and related equipment to ensure operational readiness for government and naval missions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, overhaul and preservation of gasoline and diesel marine engines, including outboard units of 25 hp and above.
• Inspect, troubleshoot and repair propulsion, hydraulic, pneumatic, cargo pump, valve, air compressor, welding and other marine mechanical systems.
• Execute preventive maintenance tasks such as lubricating, cleaning, testing and adjusting equipment.
• Use manual and computerized diagnostic tools to identify faults and implement corrective actions.
• Repair or replace mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, ignition, lighting, warning and fuel‑injection components with appropriate hand and power tools.
• Interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and blueprints for inspections and repairs.
• Conduct annual watercraft inspections and ensure compliance with U.S. Coast Guard, OSHA, CFR and host‑nation regulations.
• Develop and follow preventative maintenance schedules and assist in creating fleet maintenance procedures and training programs.
• Carry out structural repairs, including heavy‑body, sub‑frame, fiberglass restoration and gel‑coat work.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports and equipment histories.

Required profile

• Proven experience with gasoline and diesel marine engines and outboard propulsion systems.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems used on vessels.
• Ability to read and apply technical documentation, schematics and blueprints.
• Familiarity with safety, environmental and regulatory standards governing marine operations.
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high operational readiness.
