Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation for Air Force, Space Force, ARTs, GEODDs, and AMC missions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Non‑Tactical Vehicles (NTVE), Weight Handling Equipment (WHE), Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and other handling equipment.
• Conduct body, fender and mechanical repairs to keep transportation assets safe and presentable.
• Inspect, diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Execute routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication and tune‑ups.
• Document all maintenance actions and ensure compliance with military and safety regulations.
• Assist in parts procurement, maintain inventory records and support inspection certifications.
• Collaborate with other maintenance and transportation staff to meet service deadlines.
