Fire Inspector

About the role

The Fire Inspector will ensure fire safety compliance for a US Navy program on Diego Garcia, conducting inspections, identifying hazards, and promoting fire prevention across facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspections to detect, control, and eliminate fire hazards in designated facilities and operations.
• Assess compliance with fire safety regulations, codes, and NFPA standards.
• Document violations, prepare corrective action recommendations, and maintain detailed inspection records.
• Review building layouts, construction plans, and fire protection systems for regulatory adherence.
• Provide fire and life safety education as a Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I.
• Assist the Fire Marshal and leadership with risk analysis, fire prevention programs, and emergency response as needed.
• Complete the NFPA 101 Life Safety Course within two years of employment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years experience as a firefighter and two years as a fire inspector.
• Certification as Fire Inspector I and II, Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I, and Hazmat Awareness (to be obtained within 12 months of hire).
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain/maintain facility credentials.
