About the role
We are looking for an experienced Elevator Mechanic to join Amentum’s US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves installing, maintaining and repairing elevators and related equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation in a demanding overseas environment.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a safe workplace and comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
- Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, signal and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters and other test equipment.
- Disassemble defective units and replace parts such as locks, gears, cables and safety devices.
- Lubricate bearings and other moving parts to reduce friction.
- Install and repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units and conduit systems.
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and resolve equipment issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance according to published schedules and provide input for maintenance plan improvements.
- Conduct equipment testing with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges and frequency counters.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program with a Journeyman’s Certificate or equivalent field experience.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and manufacturers’ manuals.
- Knowledge of US and/or European Electrical Codes and accepted trade practices.
- Understanding of annual maintenance requirements for electrical and mechanical systems and load‑testing procedures.
- Experience working with elevators in an overseas or similar high‑security environment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and customer service.
Required skills
- Electrical troubleshooting (brakes, motors, switches, control systems).
- Mechanical repair and part replacement (locks, gears, cables, safety devices).
- Use of test equipment: voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, continuity tester, feeler gauge, frequency counter.
- Blueprint and wiring diagram interpretation.

- Knowledge of US/EU Electrical Codes.
