Associate Fire Chief – Diego Garcia

About the role

We are looking for an Associate Fire Chief to lead fire and emergency services on Diego Garcia. Reporting to the Program Fire Chief, you will ensure compliance with the Performance Work Statement, ISO 9001 QMS and NFPA/DOD standards while maintaining operational readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Lead response to large‑scale emergencies, directing fire ground and EMS operations in line with international, US and contract requirements.
• Plan, coordinate, supervise and evaluate fire and EMS activities, including incident reporting and documentation.
• Prepare and manage the annual fire and EMS budget, oversee equipment specifications, acquisition and maintenance.
• Represent Fire Emergency Services in meetings with command staff, contracting officers and external agencies.
• Direct firefighter health‑and‑safety programs, occupational medical evaluations and grievance handling.
• Oversee training, fire‑prevention inspections and development of master training plans.
• Perform hands‑on firefighting, fire‑equipment operation, emergency medical care and routine equipment maintenance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in fire‑service leadership, preferably at a senior or chief level.
• Familiarity with NFPA, DOD fire‑safety requirements and ISO 9001 quality‑management processes.
• Ability to assume full Fire Chief duties in the chief’s absence.
• Strong record‑keeping, reporting and budgeting capabilities.
