Telephone System Installer / Technician

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Telephone System Installer / Technician to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. You will be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining telephone and communication equipment to ensure reliable services for critical operations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain telephone systems, cabling, and related infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and repair telephone equipment, lines, and systems, resolving issues promptly.
• Conduct system testing, diagnose faults, and verify equipment meets specifications.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections to prevent malfunctions.
• Plan and install cabling for new systems, ensuring secure routing to exchange equipment and terminals.
• Install new telephone lines, handsets, modems, and other devices.
• Maintain accurate records of wiring, installations, maintenance activities, and inventory.
• Respond to service requests, coordinate with other contractors, and provide user training as needed.
• Ensure compliance with industry, military, and safety standards.
• Stay updated on emerging telecommunications technologies.

Required profile

• 2‑4 years of hands‑on experience installing, repairing, and maintaining telephone systems.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in telecommunications or IT preferred.
• Proficiency with cabling, wiring, and troubleshooting tools.
• Knowledge of analog and digital telephone switching systems and VoIP technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and wiring schematics.
• Familiarity with industry standards and safety practices for telephone installations.
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
