About the role
Amentum is seeking a Solid Waste Management Center (SWMC) Operator to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves safe, efficient operation of waste‑handling equipment and adherence to government‑approved procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Operate solid waste management equipment in line with the Government‑accepted SWMC Operations and Maintenance Manual.
- Perform daily collection, sorting, processing, and disposal of solid waste materials.
- Conduct inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs to keep equipment operational and safe.
- Maintain organized work areas and document equipment usage, maintenance, and waste handling activities.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety, environmental regulations, and operational guidelines.
- Support waste‑reduction and recycling initiatives as outlined in the SWMC O&M manual.
- Report mechanical issues, equipment concerns, or safety hazards to supervisors.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve operational efficiency.
Required profile
- Fully qualified to operate solid waste management equipment per the SWMC O&M Manual.
- Proven knowledge of solid waste handling, sorting, operations, and safety guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and checks on mechanical equipment.
- Valid passport with at least one year remaining at hiring.
- Pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the deployment duration.
