SWMC Operator – Solid Waste Management Center

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Solid Waste Management Center (SWMC) Operator to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves safe, efficient operation of waste‑handling equipment and adherence to government‑approved procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Operate solid waste management equipment in line with the Government‑accepted SWMC Operations and Maintenance Manual.
• Perform daily collection, sorting, processing, and disposal of solid waste materials.
• Conduct inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs to keep equipment operational and safe.
• Maintain organized work areas and document equipment usage, maintenance, and waste handling activities.
• Ensure compliance with workplace safety, environmental regulations, and operational guidelines.
• Support waste‑reduction and recycling initiatives as outlined in the SWMC O&M manual.
• Report mechanical issues, equipment concerns, or safety hazards to supervisors.
• Collaborate with team members to achieve operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Fully qualified to operate solid waste management equipment per the SWMC O&M Manual.
• Proven knowledge of solid waste handling, sorting, operations, and safety guidelines.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform routine maintenance and checks on mechanical equipment.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining at hiring.
• Pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the deployment duration.
