Switchboard Operator

About the role

Amentum is seeking a professional Switchboard Operator to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. You will be the first point of contact for incoming and outgoing calls, ensuring smooth communication across the site.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and manage the telephone switchboard, answering, screening, and directing calls.
• Provide accurate information and route inquiries to the appropriate department or personnel.
• Log and track calls, update status, and maintain the directory database.
• Assist with emergency communications and prioritize urgent calls according to escalation protocols.
• Maintain and troubleshoot switchboard equipment following operational procedures.
• Handle sensitive and confidential information securely.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of experience operating a switchboard or in a customer‑service role.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Fluent English (spoken and written).
• Strong communication, problem‑solving, and multitasking abilities.
• Professional demeanor under pressure.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to travel internationally.
• Pass contract medical requirements for the duration of deployment.
