Marine Welder / Shipfitter for US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Welder/Shipfitter to support a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves welding, fabrication, installation, and structural repair of marine vessels and shipboard systems while adhering to military and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform welding, fabrication, and structural repair on marine vessels, equipment, and shipboard systems using SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and oxy‑fuel cutting.
• Fabricate and install piping systems for high‑pressure steam, compressed air, fuel, hydraulic, and ballast.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, welding symbols, and engineering specifications.
• Inspect welds and assemblies for compliance with codes and quality standards, and maintain certification records.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of shipboard welding, fabrication, or marine structural repair experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent and current welding certifications for multiple materials.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to obtain required visas and facility credentials.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and work in a remote overseas environment.

Required skills

• SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), FCAW (flux‑core) welding techniques.
• Oxy‑fuel cutting, plasma cutting, grinding, and use of fabrication tools.
• Reading and interpreting blueprints, welding symbols, and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of welding procedures for high‑tensile steel, Cu‑Ni alloys, aluminum, stainless and carbon steel.
