Dockmaster – Dry Dock Operations Specialist

About the role

The Dockmaster will lead all Syncrolift and transfer system operations for a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. This role ensures safe, efficient dry‑docking and undocking evolutions while maintaining compliance with strict health, safety, and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Syncrolift and transfer system operations in accordance with DGLOCALCOORDINST 3170.1.
• Develop, prepare, and submit Dry Docking/Undocking Plans and Safety Procedures for approval.
• Supervise and coordinate dry‑docking and undocking evolutions, ensuring safety and operational compliance.
• Maintain on‑island availability or ensure an approved alternate is ready to support operations.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations during Syncrolift tasks.
• Manage, train, and oversee a team assisting with Syncrolift operations.
• Collaborate with the Port Operations Officer on schedules and safety guidelines.
• Maintain accurate operational records and logs.
• Provide training to designated alternates and staff on Syncrolift procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum three (3) years of shipyard operations experience with comprehensive dry‑docking knowledge.
• Hands‑on experience with Syncrolift and transfer systems.
• Completion of manufacturer training for Syncrolift operations.
• Strong safety and risk‑management knowledge for dry‑docking procedures.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to pass contract medical requirements.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, marine operations, or related field; experience in austere OCONUS environments; valid driver’s license; in‑depth knowledge of DGLOCALCOORDINST 3170.1 and Syncrolift protocols.
