Coxswain – Vessel Operations on Diego Garcia

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Coxswain to operate and navigate boats for a critical U.S. Navy program located on Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe transport of personnel and cargo while maintaining vessel readiness in a remote, austere environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and navigate various watercraft, adhering to maritime laws and regulations.
• Conduct pre‑trip inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Monitor weather conditions and adjust plans as needed.
• Handle docking, mooring, and cargo loading/unloading safely.
• Maintain navigation and communication equipment.
• Coordinate with port authorities, other vessels, and Amentum safety teams.
• Manage emergency situations, perform rescues, and lead safety drills.
• Keep accurate logs of trips, maintenance, and incidents.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Coxswain or similar watercraft operator.
• Qualified per NAVEDTRA 43152.2 and familiar with Diego Garcia waterways.
• Minimum 48 hours hands‑on deep‑sea fishing boat experience in Diego Garcia.
• Valid passport (at least one year remaining) and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain required facility credentials.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
• American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certification.
• Valid boat operator’s license or certification.
• Basic vessel maintenance and repair skills.
