Automotive Painter

About the role

Amentum is seeking an Automotive Painter to support a unique U.S. Navy program on the remote island of Diego Garcia. The role involves preparing and coating vehicle surfaces to meet strict military specifications while adhering to rigorous safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Apply primer, paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other coatings using brushes, rollers, spray guns and related equipment.
• Remove old paint with liquid removers, scrapers or sand/blast media, then smooth surfaces with sandpaper, steel wool or acid solutions.
• Mask off areas not to be painted and stencil insignia, letters or numerals onto vehicle surfaces.
• Maintain compliance with occupational safety and health standards, using required PPE and reporting hazards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum three years recent experience in maintenance, water blasting, sand/blast, bead blasting, overhaul and painting/depainting of contract equipment.
• Normal color vision and ability to pass PFT and respirator fit tests.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to obtain required visas and facility credentials.

Required skills

• Surface coating and paint application techniques.

• Paint removal using chemical strippers and mechanical methods.
• Masking, stenciling and signage application.
