Automotive Fabrication Technician

About the role

Amentum is seeking an Automotive Fabrication Technician to support a unique U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves repairing, fabricating, and restoring vehicles that have been in accidents, ensuring they return to like‑new condition.

Key responsibilities

• Disassemble, repair, and reassemble accident‑damaged vehicles.
• Fabricate body parts and brackets from aluminum and steel.
• Collaborate with body/paint technicians to restore vehicle appearance.
• Assist management in estimating damages and preparing accident quotes.
• Maintain strict compliance with occupational safety and health standards, including consistent use of PPE and hazard reporting.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in welding/fabrication or automotive/truck repair.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining and ability to obtain required visas.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain facility credentials.
• English proficiency sufficient to follow contract requirements and emergency procedures.

Required skills

• Aluminum and steel sheet and structural welding.
• Use of plasma cutter and acetylene/oxygen torches.
• Welding procedures for various aluminum and steel alloys.
• Limited electrical knowledge.
