SWMC Operator

About the role

Amentum is seeking a SWMC Operator to support a US Navy solid waste management program on Diego Garcia. The role involves the safe and efficient operation of equipment and tasks related to solid waste collection, sorting, processing and disposal in accordance with established protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Operate solid waste management equipment following the Government‑accepted SWMC Operations & Maintenance Manual.
• Perform daily collection, sorting, processing and disposal of solid waste materials.
• Conduct inspections, preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment to ensure readiness and safety compliance.
• Maintain an organized work environment at the Solid Waste Management Center.
• Record equipment usage, maintenance activities and waste handling in accordance with regulatory standards.
• Adhere to workplace safety practices, environmental regulations and operational guidelines.
• Support waste reduction and recycling initiatives as outlined in the SWMC O&M manual.
• Report mechanical issues, equipment concerns or safety hazards to supervisors.
• Collaborate with team members to achieve operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Fully qualified to operate solid waste management equipment per the SWMC O&M Manual.
• Demonstrated knowledge of solid waste handling, sorting, operations and safety guidelines.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform routine maintenance and checks on mechanical equipment.
• Valid passport with at least one year of validity and ability to obtain required visas.
• Pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the deployment duration.
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
• Proficient in reading, speaking and comprehending English.
