Senior Power Plant Operator (SPP/NPP)

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Senior Power Plant Operator to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable operation of either the South Power Plant (SPP) or North Power Plant (NPP) during assigned shifts, while coordinating power delivery across both facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all plant operations during the shift, enforcing policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Communicate and coordinate power demand and equipment status between SPP and NPP to maintain continuous delivery.
• Monitor and manage generators, switchboards, radiator fans, fuel supply systems, and air compressors.
• Conduct pre‑operation checks, routine inspections, operational monitoring, and post‑operation reviews.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions, implement corrective actions, and minimize downtime.
• Prepare accurate shift logs, operational data, and performance reports.
• Train and mentor shift personnel on procedures and emergency response.
• Collaborate with the Electrical Utility Manager and other supervisors on policy implementation and maintenance schedules.
• Assist in developing and updating operating procedures to improve plant performance.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating and supervising a power plant or similar industrial facility.
• Strong knowledge of safety and occupational health standards.
• Ability to lead shift teams, provide training, and handle emergency situations.
• Excellent communication skills for coordination between two plant sites.
