Public Works Director & Chief Engineer

About the role

Amentum is seeking a seasoned Public Works Director and Chief Engineer to lead the day‑to‑day operations of the Public Works Department for a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures reliable utility systems, facilities, roads, and infrastructure while supporting mission success.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and schedules for infrastructure operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Manage engineering and maintenance operations, including environmental programs, system upgrades, and lifecycle management.
• Allocate labor, materials, and equipment to meet contract performance and operational priorities.
• Monitor and control budgets for public works projects, ensuring financial compliance.
• Coordinate engineering designs, technical solutions, and construction efforts for infrastructure improvements.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental policies, local laws, U.S. regulations, and contractual obligations.
• Supervise and mentor Public Works staff, fostering professional growth and high performance.
• Prepare and deliver operational and project status reports to leadership and government representatives.
• Serve as primary liaison with the client and government on technical and operational matters.
• Lead emergency response and contingency planning for operational failures or crises.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related ABET‑accredited field.
• 8–10 years of progressively responsible experience in public works operations, infrastructure management, or facilities maintenance.
• Registered Professional Engineer license issued by a U.S. state.
• Proven ability to manage large‑scale public works projects and multidisciplinary teams.
