Power Plant Operator – US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Power Plant Operator to support a critical US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable electricity generation by operating and maintaining all plant systems.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor generator sets, switchboards, radiator fans, and related power plant equipment.
• Manage fuel supply systems, including air compressors, fuel‑oil centrifuges, and lube‑oil centrifuges.
• Perform pre‑operation checks, continuous monitoring, and post‑operation inspections.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct routine inspections to detect wear, leaks, corrosion, or other performance‑affecting conditions.
• Regulate load balances via power plant controls to ensure consistent power delivery.
• Document equipment performance, operational data, and maintenance logs for each shift.
• Execute preventive maintenance and basic repairs such as cleaning, lubricating, and part replacement.
• Adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and PPE requirements.
• Respond to emergencies and abnormal conditions to minimize downtime.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience operating and maintaining power generation equipment.
• Proven knowledge of generator sets, switchboards, air compressors, and fuel/lube oil systems.
• Commitment to occupational safety and health standards.
• Ability to work effectively with supervisors, technicians, and operational staff.
