Power Plant Operator

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Power Plant Operator to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves operating, monitoring, and maintaining power generation equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable electricity supply.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor generator sets, switchboards, radiator fans, and related power plant systems.
• Manage fuel supply systems, including starting air compressors, fuel oil centrifuges, and lube oil centrifuges.
• Perform pre‑operation checks, continuous operational monitoring, and post‑operation inspections.
• Troubleshoot operational problems and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections for wear, leaks, corrosion, or other issues.
• Regulate load balances via power plant controls to maintain consistent electrical output.
• Document equipment performance, operational data, and maintenance logs for each shift.
• Execute preventive maintenance and basic repairs such as cleaning, lubricating, and part replacement.
• Adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and PPE requirements.
• Respond to emergencies and abnormal conditions to minimize downtime.

Required profile

• Minimum three (3) years of experience operating and maintaining power generation equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to follow occupational safety and health standards.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Effective communication with supervisors, technicians, and operational staff.
