Medical Records Technician – Clinic Support

About the role

The Medical Records Technician will support the Base Operating Support Contractor (BOSC) Clinic on Diego Garcia by managing patient records, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and security of health information. This position works closely with the clinical team to keep records organized and readily available for patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Organize, maintain, and update patient medical records in both physical and electronic formats according to clinic policies.
• Validate that records contain complete and accurate information, including histories, test results, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
• Enter and update patient data in health record management systems promptly.
• Review records for HIPAA compliance and other regulatory requirements.
• Respond to authorized requests for medical records from providers, patients, or other entities.
• Prepare reports and data summaries for clinical staff or leadership.
• Assist healthcare providers by ensuring documentation is available for decision‑making.
• Manage record release processes and maintain logs of accessed or transferred records.
• Provide guidance and training to staff on proper documentation, organization, and security practices.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of experience in medical records management, healthcare administration, or a related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read, speak, and comprehend English for contract requirements and emergency procedures.
• Valid passport for at least one year and ability to obtain required visas.
• Capability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with medical recordkeeping systems.
• Experience using health information management software.
• Competence with standard office software applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets).
