Lead Mess Attendant (US Navy Program)

About the role

The Lead Mess Attendant will oversee daily operations of the dining facility supporting a U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. This role ensures a clean, organized environment and compliance with sanitation standards while delivering high‑quality food service to personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of mess attendants in meal preparation, serving lines, dishwashing, and dining area maintenance.
• Coordinate food service schedules, task assignments, and workflow to meet mission requirements.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and rotation of food items in accordance with Navy and Amentum guidelines.
• Monitor inventory levels, assist with supply requests, and support restocking activities.
• Train new staff on food service procedures, safety practices, and customer service expectations.
• Provide exceptional service to personnel and maintain a professional, welcoming dining environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the position’s nature and level.

Required profile

• 1–3 years of experience in food service, dining facility operations, or related hospitality roles.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications: Customer Service, CPR, First Aid, Food Safety (annual recertification).
• Valid passport with at least one year beyond hire date and ability to travel internationally.
• Meet contract medical requirements and obtain necessary visas and facility credentials.
• Proficient in English (reading, speaking, comprehension) to perform duties and follow emergency procedures.
