HVAC / Refrigeration Mechanic – US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is looking for an experienced HVAC / Refrigeration Mechanic to support a unique U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. You will lead crews, ensure compliance with technical specifications, and maintain critical climate control equipment in a remote, high‑security environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HVAC crews in the installation, maintenance, modification, overhaul, service and repair of air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems.
• Coordinate schedules, staffing and work distribution to meet project timelines.
• Track progress, analyze trends, report issues and recommend improvements.
• Implement preventive‑maintenance programs for all HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
• Train personnel on maintenance procedures and performance standards.
• Fabricate, assemble and install ductwork, chassis parts and perform welding using portable metal‑working tools.
• Connect motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls, ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.
• Install, repair and service up to twenty‑ton air‑conditioning units.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of relevant experience in HVAC, refrigeration or related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent; trade certification in heating and air‑conditioning preferred.
• Valid passport (minimum one year) and ability to obtain required visas.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout deployment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of refrigeration, heating and air‑handling principles.
• Proficiency with hand tools, diagnostic equipment and portable metal‑working tools.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, safety rules and maintenance manuals.
• EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (type 1, 2 and/or 3) as required.
• Freon recovery/recycling certification or equivalent host‑country certification.
