Assistant Fire Chief of Operations

About the role

Amentum is seeking an Assistant Fire Chief of Operations to lead fire and emergency services on the island of Diego Garcia, supporting a critical U.S. Navy program. The role ensures operational readiness, compliance with fire safety standards, and effective emergency response.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and management for fire department operations, fostering a safe and effective firefighting, rescue, and emergency response team.
• Lead fire prevention initiatives, including inspections, compliance assessments, and community outreach.
• Develop and implement emergency action plans for various fire and emergency scenarios.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, DoD, and other applicable regulations.
• Supervise fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, and related emergency operations.
• Schedule personnel assignments, manage training programs, and maintain required certifications.
• Assist in budgeting for equipment, supplies, and personnel needs.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure fire safety systems are inspected and operational.
• Maintain accurate incident reports, operational data, and training records.
• Act as liaison with local, municipal, and military stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience leading a fire prevention section or division of comparable size.
• Certification as Assistant Chief of Operations, Fire Inspector III, and Plans Examiner I.
• Ability to complete NFPA 101 Life Safety Course within two years of employment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated operational leadership, team‑building, and emergency response management.
• Strong organizational, time‑management, and communication abilities.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain facility credentials.
• Fluent in reading, speaking, and comprehending English.
