Recreation Services Coordinator

About the role

The Recreation Services Coordinator will support the US Navy’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program on Diego Garcia. Working closely with the Recreation Services Manager, the role ensures safe, engaging, and well‑run recreational activities for military personnel and base residents.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning, coordinating, and administering all MWR programs and services.
• Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations, including CNICINST 1710.3 standards.
• Maintain current certifications such as CPR and American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.
• Organize and officiate sports events (soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, flag football).
• Support resale operations, manage inventory, track supply chain, and analyze data to improve efficiency and profitability.
• Develop and market recreational activities to engage military personnel and base residents.
• Deliver exceptional customer service through the MWR Star Service, Achieving Extraordinary Customer Relations (AECR) program.
• Document employee training and provide on‑the‑job training for staff.
• Monitor daily operations of facilities, programs, and sports leagues to ensure quality standards.
• Be available on‑site within one hour for contingencies or emergencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Three years of experience in military recreational services or comparable civilian sector.
• Minimum five years of specialized experience in a Non‑Appropriated Funds Instrumentality (NAFI) or similar managerial role.
• Current CPR certification.
• Certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor.
