Plant Nursery Worker

About the role

Amentum is looking for a Plant Nursery Worker to support a U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves cultivating, maintaining, and caring for a variety of plants, trees, and shrubs used in landscaping and greening projects across the island.

Key responsibilities

• Seed, grow, and maintain plants to ensure optimal health and growth.
• Perform daily plant care tasks such as watering, pruning, fertilizing, potting, and weeding.
• Identify and treat signs of disease, pests, or decay, replacing unhealthy plants within 48 hours.
• Transplant plants, shrubs, and trees to designated locations using proper techniques.
• Load, unload, and transport plants and related materials around the island.
• Monitor greenhouse and nursery conditions (humidity, light, temperature) to maintain ideal growth environments.
• Prepare soil, planters, and garden areas for seeding, transplanting, or landscaping projects.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and facilities to ensure a clean and safe workspace.
• Keep detailed records of inventory, care schedules, transplantation activities, and maintenance tasks.

Required profile

• Knowledge or experience in horticulture, landscaping, or plant cultivation.
• Basic understanding of plant care techniques such as seeding, watering, fertilizing, and pruning.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical labor.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
• Proficiency in English for reading, speaking, and comprehension.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining and ability to obtain required visas.
