Librarian for US Navy Program (Diego Garcia)

About the role

Amentum is looking for a Librarian to support a unique U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves managing the day‑to‑day operations of the library facility and delivering high‑quality resources and programs for military personnel and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee library operations, ensuring the space is clean, well‑maintained and welcoming.
• Assist patrons in locating materials, conducting research and using library equipment.
• Manage the collection through cataloguing, organizing and maintaining materials according to library science principles.
• Monitor inventory and implement measures to keep the catalogue up to date.
• Develop and promote programs that support MWR objectives and community needs.
• Conduct workshops, literacy events and cultural activities.
• Train and mentor support staff and volunteers.
• Maintain transaction records, including check‑outs, returns and overdue items.
• Stay current with library technologies and integrate appropriate tools.
• Enforce library policies to ensure a respectful environment.
• Perform other duties consistent with the position.

Required profile

• Four‑year degree in Library Science or related field, OR two years experience in a military, school or public library with a high school diploma.
• Familiarity with cataloguing systems, digital resource management and library organization principles.
• Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
• Proficiency in English (reading, speaking, comprehension) to meet contract and emergency‑procedure requirements.
• Ability to complete required training and certifications (Customer Service, CPR, etc.).
